Hi everyone

I've been plodding along quite well up until now. For about 3 months I've suffered from a really sore tongue. 4 visits to the doctors and my tongue is still extremely sore with ulcers and feels very sensitive even after trying various gels and steriod tablets. I am finding it really painful to eat at the moment and its really getting me down. I've also suffered from a creaky jaw that since i've had RA is a lot worse!!!!!!

I've got an appointment with my specialist at the hospital on the 27th and I am going to ask if my sore tongue could be due to the tablets that I am taking. I've also felt really under the weather this weekend as if I'm about to go down with a cold. So all in all I am feeling a bit sorry for myself at present!!!

The good news is I've discovered Hotter shoes and they are really comfy I've just ordered a new pair for the winter. Smile
Take care
Love Debs x

Empathy here.

I have sore tongue and things like bananas and pinneapple are agony.

My dr says its Geographical tongue and its all to do with the immunity issues underlying the RA.

i have not had treatment

Hi Debs

Sorry to hear what a rotten time you are having at the moment, having googled Jenni s geographical tongue it does explain it well and some things that can help reduce the problem like chewing minty things and taking antihistamines.

Hope you start to feel a little better very soon.

Hi Debs,

I use Oraldene mouthwash when my tongue's sore.
It doesn't cure it but it's quite soothing. Also, have you tried Rinstead pastilles?
Hope it settles down soon.

Love Doreen xx

Hi Debs

Sorry you are feeling so rough at the moment, hope the suggestions to ease the pain in your tongue helps.

I also wear Hotter shoes and they are comfortable although I still dread going back into proper shoes after wearing sandals all summer.

Hope you soon feel better.

Best Wishes

Sue

Hi Debs.

I found that using warm salt water as a mouth rinse several times a day helped me. I hope you get some relief very soon.

Hi Debs sorry you having a bad time at the moment. I don't get a sore tongue as such but get ulcers at the side of it, bonjela adult formula seems to help but they are painful when eating.

A new pair of shoes always cheers me up!

Aw Debs,

Thats just pants about your tongue.

my 10 yr old niece has just been diagnosed with Geographical tongue, I hope this doesn't mean she will get our dreaded disease. I'd never heard of it till my niece was told she had it.

My Dad has something called Likenplanus(spelling), sore mouth, intollerance to citrus fruits and spicey foods.

Hope you feel better soon,

Trace xx

Hi Debs,

Sorry to hear you are poorly at the moment, I have not heard of your problem before now. I find if I eat hard sweets I can get a very sore mouth, but I do not eat these very often to avoid this, the occasional one only. Smile I do hope you get relief soon.

Take care Lorna Smile

Hi Debs,

Sorry that you not feeling too good. It is horrible when you get a sore mouth / tongue as even to talk it
affects us and hursts. The old fashioned warm salt water I use for the many ulcers I constantly get.

I didn't know that ulcers may possibly mean another sympton along with RA .

Hi Debs. So sorry you are suffering right now. I don't have this problem so can't really offer any advice. I do hope you get something sorted soon to make you feel better.

Thank you so much for replying. I have been back to my Dr this morning who has prescribed Prednisolone tablets to see if they help. She is also going to contact my consultant at the hospital to see if it could be due to the tablets that I am taking. Hopefully it will sort its self out soon as it is so painful. Sad

Hi Debs

I agree with the warm water and salt, my dentist said its the best thing for mouth ulcers and it certainly helped me.

To all tongue sufferers. I sympathise. Methotrexate does me in and I have to avoid spicy foods and fruit like the plague. I used to love all the soft fruits of summer but alas no longer. Thanks for posting the explanation Jenni - it is always good to have a name put to something.

I hope all our tongues are well soon.ThumpUp
